Madison man lead police on car chase with kids and woman in car

Police arrested a Fitchburg man on six separate charges Tuesday after he led them on a car chase through Madison, according to a police report.

A member of Madison Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Safety Team flagged down 23-year-old Travis Brown for speeding on the 1800 block of Fish Hatchery Road at about 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, MPD spokesperson Joel DeSpain said in a statement.

The report states Brown refused to pull over and the TEST officer noticed bags of marijuana thrown out the passenger window during the course of the chase.

When Brown finally stopped, police ordered him to the ground and saw a 21-year-old woman in the front seat as well as two kids in the car, ages one and three, according to DeSpain.

Brown denied throwing drugs out the window and when police questioned him about the nearly $4,000 in his pockets, Brown reportedly said it was his “tax return.”

Police charged Brown with child neglect, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, knowingly fleeing an officer, speeding, operating with a suspended license and operating after license revocation.

Police identified the woman as Chelsea Fry and cited her for obstructing an officer.
