Biker dies after crash on Lakeshore path

A biker was pronounced dead after crashing on the Temin Lakeshore Path behind Elizabeth Waters residence hall Friday.

A passer-by called the University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department at approximately 2:48 p.m. after the individual found the male biker bleeding and possibly not breathing on the path, according to UWPD Sgt. Aaron Chapin.

Chapin confirmed the biker was not a University of Wisconsin-Madison student and no one else was injured during the accident.

Officers and bystanders attempted to save the man’s life using CPR and a defibrillator, according to a press release.

Madison Fire Department paramedics also performed “additional life saving measures,” according to Chapin, and transported the biker to the UW Hospital Emergency Department where he was pronounced dead.

Chapin said a coroner will most likely perform an autopsy to determine cause of death, but preliminary investigations indicate the biker had a preexisting medical condition.

“We believe at this point there was a medical issue that happened that created the crash,” Chapin said.

Police are withholding the biker’s identity until his family is notified.
