Police investigating death, fall from balcony

Madison Police are investigating two separate incidents downtown, including one death and a severe injury.

A Madison Police officer found a 37-year old man dead around 7 a.m. Friday morning on the 500 block of N. Frances Street between State Street and Langdon Street. The police report said the victim had no permanent address.

An autopsy will determine the cause of death, including whether heat is considered a cause. Police said there were no signs of foul play.

Also Friday morning, a 23-year old man fell from the 4th story balcony of his residence on the 100 block of Langdon Street, leaving him in what the police report calls “critical condition.”

According to the report, the man was found on concrete about 30 feet below the balcony where he had last been seen shortly before he fell. A housemate who heard “distinct thuds” around 3:36 a.m. called 911.

Before the incident, the man had been on the balcony with a few people to talk.
