Waukesha County Clerk will not seek reelection

A Waukesha County Clerk who faced criticism last year when more than 14,000 votes were not counted in a close state Supreme Court race, will not seek reelection this year.

Earlier this month, state election officials said they will help Waukesha officials during the May 8 and June 5 recalls to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the elections. Kathy Nickolaus handed over her duties to the county’s Deputy Clerk at the request of the Waukesha County Executive.

Nickolaus’ mistake in the Supreme Court race eventually flipped the outcome of the close election. She also posted election numbers from the April 3 primary elections late.
