The state’s largest business lobby will spend $2 million on advertising to support embattled Gov. Scott Walker in the June 5 recall election.
According to its website, the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce represents business interests of large and small manufacturers, service companies, local chambers of commerce and specialized trade associations throughout the state.
But leading Democratic candidate Tom Barrett’s campaign said the ads are a “false, negative attack” on Barrett’s record as Milwaukee mayor.
“This is a clear indication that Scott Walker and his right-wing allies are trying to prevent Tom Barrett from winning the Democratic primary, because they know he’s the candidate that will beat Scott Walker on June 5th,” said Barrett for Wisconsin Communications Director Phil Walzak in a statement Friday.
Walker will campaign in Milwaukee and Green Bay Tuesday with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
