After being awarded the national title for a major international accounting competition, a team of four UW-Madison students will represent the U.S. in Hong Kong as they compete with teams from nearly 30 nations this April.
The team, which includes undergraduates Jordan Heginbottom, Matthew Zimdars, Hannah Sugars and Andrea Nichols, started small by placing first at the UW competition in November. But the team showed no signs of slowing as it won the western regional finals and eventually the finals in New York City, where it defeated three universities, including two-time defending champion Wake Forest.
The competition in Hong Kong, hosted by accounting firm KPMG, will be similar to those in which the team has already competed. Teams will be given three hours to analyze cases involving business challenges, after which they will present their findings and recommendations to a panel of judges.
Cases could range from highly technical accounting and finance issues to broad and consultative marketing projects.
