Task force meets to discuss UW System restructuring

A special task force charged with restructuring the University of Wisconsin System met Wednesday to discuss plans to design a new human resource system within the institution.

The system would be structured to emphasize communication between decision makers at the campus level and an advisory committee made of faculty, academic staff and students.

“There is a straight-line relationship between governance and executive sponsors consistent with state law and the rights of student faculty and staff to provide direct advice and counsel to the chancellor,” UW-Madison Vice Chancellor Darrell Bazzell said.

The proposed human resource system would aim to promote efficiency and flexibility, and it would try to meet the unique needs of UW-Madison and other UW campuses.

Issues regarding the compensation of UW employees were also discussed at the meeting.

UW employees are currently included in a two-step system of irregular and inconsistent payment in the state compensation plan. But the task force proposed putting UW employees on a more efficient one-step system.
