Gov. Scott Walker issued a proclamation last week recognizing National Marriage Week, which will take place February 7-14.
The proclamation touted the benefits of marriage and said the breakdown of marriage takes a toll on family life and ""increases the public cost for human service programs.""
Wisconsin Family Council President Julaine Appling, an avid critic of same-sex marriage and no-fault divorce, praised the proclamation, calling it ""a strong statement about how the governor views marriage and its importance to his overall agenda.""
Eric Skelton, Director of Marriage & Family Ministry at WFC, said this move by Walker ""sets Wisconsin apart.""
Walker concluded the proclamation by encouraging citizens ""to strengthen marriages through educational programs, conferences, enrichment seminars and public policies.""
