Woman pleads no contest to DUI

A Madison woman avoided a trial Monday by pleading no contest to a charge of harboring a felon after she drove her friend away from the scene of a fatal drunken-driving crash that took place last February.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Jan Pilon, 33, of Madison will not face a prison sentence under a plea agreement reached with Dane County District Attorney Brian Blanchard. However, Pilon may still serve time in jail as a condition of her probation.

Nicole Endres, 29, was found guilty of six felonies after she reportedly pinned her passenger, Craig Sawciki, 26, under her car, resulting in his death.

Pilon testified she was following Endres in a separate vehicle after leaving a bar on February 16, 2008. After the crash, Endres and Pilon reportedly left the scene in Pilon's car and went to Pilon's house, where they refused to answer the door for an hour.

Dane County Circuit Judge Stuart Schwartz will decide Pilon's sentence after a pre-sentence investigation is finished. Endres is now scheduled for sentencing on February 27.
