Adam C. Peterson, convicted of slaying Joel Marino last year, committed suicide shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday, state Department of Corrections authorities announced.
According to the DOC press release, Peterson's cellmate at Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun awoke to find him hanging from an upper cell railing with one end of a bed sheet tied around his neck and the other to the railing.
The cellmate notified the staff, which performed emergency measures on Peterson until paramedics arrived. He was pronounced dead at 10:21 p.m. at the age of 20, according to the release.
Peterson, who briefly attended UW-Madison, pleaded guilty to first-degree intentional homicide in the stabbing of Joel Marino, 31, in December and was serving a life sentence.
