Associated Students of Madison members are currently writing bylaws to be passed on to next year's student government for approval, and the Constitutional Committee plans to launch a campaign to garner student votes for the new constitution's passage.
Constitutional Committee Chair Jeff Wright said they plan to have the bylaws published two weeks ahead of the student vote on the constitution in mid to late February. Once the bylaws are published, there will be no opportunity to change them until they are passed on to next year's student government for approval.
To allow for student input prior to the publication of the bylaws, authors have been speaking with student organizations. Wright also said they may put parts of the bylaws on their blog ahead of full publication.
We're trying to get these done as quickly as possible, as we promised many students we would,"" Wright said.
In the next few months, the Constitutional Committee will be campaigning to gain support for the constitution's passage. The campaign will not use any ASM funds to operate, but will rely on the voices of ASM members.
Wright said they plan to write to newspapers, partner with student organizations, and possibly hold informational sessions.
""It will be education-based,"" Wright said. ""We're going to explain why we think this is good for students and student groups, and how it will allow ASM to function more efficiently and effectively.""
