UW Marching Band to play at Penn State game

The University of Wisconsin Marching Band will perform at this Saturday's football game against Penn State, university officials announced Thursday afternoon.

Band Director Mike Leckrone suspended the band Oct. 3 for reports of hazing, as well as inappropriate sexual behavior and alcohol use.

According to a university statement, the suspension has been lifted for this week's game, however, the investigation led by the Offices of the Dean of Students will remain open.

Dean of Student Lori Berquam said immediate concerns for the health and safety of the band members have been addressed.

\Our review confirmed that much of the behavior described in the complaints actually took place,"" Berquam said in a statement. ""These activities represent intimidating behavior and extremely poor judgment on the part of people who represent the university as ambassadors.""

The band will not be allowed to travel for the time being, and additional complaints could place the band back on suspension.
