Job Opportunities This Fall
Think you might be interested in a career in journalism? Feel passionate about serving and entertaining students through print and online media? Or would you just like to join a group on campus that loves to have fun while working toward a common goal? The Daily Cardinal could very well be the place for you. We publish five days a week, are entirely student-run and are always looking for students eager to get involved. If you'd like to start working for the sixth oldest student newspaper in the country this fall, check out your options below and get in touch with one of our editors this summer.
News
The Daily Cardinal news team is split up into three sections: state, city and campus. Together they provide the content for our front page while also working with other sections to collaborate on longer in-depth stories and news packages.
If you'd like to report on student-related news going on at the state Capitol - and the 2008 presidential election - e-mail state@dailycardinal.com. To report on city news such as local crime, Halloween and the Mifflin Street Block Party, and Madison government, e-mail city@dailycardinal.com. E-mail campus@dailycardinal.com to learn about covering student government, campus crime, UW athletics-related issues and other happenings at UW-Madison.
Opinion
Interested in making your views heard to 40,000+ students and members of the surrounding Madison community? The Daily Cardinal's Opinion section welcomes writers interested in both local and national issues. E-mail opinion@dailycardinal.com to get in touch with the page's editors.
Sports
If you're a fan of sports and a fan of writing, e-mail sports@dailycardinal.com to get started covering UW athletics. In addition to daily sports coverage, we produce Badger Courtside, Powerplay and Gameday - issues distributed at all home basketball, hockey and football games, respectively.
Arts
The Daily Cardinal Arts page covers local entertainment - including national acts who come to Madison - as well as reviewing new music, movies, literature and video games. Whether you'd like to cover the local band scene or let the campus know what you think of the latest blockbuster movie, e-mail arts@dailycardinal.com.
Features
The Daily Cardinal has three Features sections: Science, which covers all the groundbreaking discoveries made at UW-Madison; Food, which reports on local restaurants and other food (and drink)-related stories interesting to students; and a general Features section, which takes an in-depth look at other important issues on campus. To learn how to get involved, e-mail science@dailycardinal.com, food@dailycardinal.com or features@dailycardinal.com.
Photo
Whether you're a seasoned photographer or have never picked up a camera before, The Daily Cardinal Photo desk welcomes all students interested in reporting through photography. Cardinal photographers do everything from snapping pictures of presidential candidates who come to campus to traveling around the country to cover Badger sporting events. If interested, e-mail photo@dailycardinal.com.
Graphics
The Daily Cardinal Graphics staff takes care of all the illustrations that run in the paper, including the comics. If you love to draw and would like to see your artwork in print, e-mail graphics@dailycardinal.com.
