The University Book Store will donate 25 cents per hug to one of three charities for every student who hugs a tree outside the State Street store from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday for Earth Day.
Erin Lambert-Conohan, University Book Store marketing supervisor, said Tuesday's event is the first time the store has hosted Hug a Tree for Charity.""
Students will have the opportunity to choose between three charities including Wisconsin Environment, The Nature Conservancy and Clean Wisconsin to donate to after their hug.
Lambert-Conohan said University Book Store marketing department staff members chose the charities.
""It's something that we'd like to have students involved with, and their input for next year would be great.""
Lambert-Conohan said she came up with the idea, and though ""it's kind of funny,"" it allows the store to do something good for the environment.
""Just come hug a tree. We're really excited.""
