Mostly-web paper an opportunity

:

Mostly-web paper an opportunity

Today marks the first bi-weekly print edition of The Capital Times and its start as a primarily online news source.

The Capital Times is the first daily newspaper in the country to basically eliminate its print circulation and run most of its content online.

The Capital Times' presence in Madison has lasted 90 years, and although the platform may change, its legacy and importance will remain.

A significant aspect which will allow

The Capital Times to remain as a major news source in Madison is its relationship with madison.com. As long as The Capital Times' website is under madison.com's umbrella, captimes.com will continue to get hits and readers.

This relationship is key for continued readership of The Capital Times.

In securing a mainly online platform, The Capital Times will be able to address breaking news better than any print news source in Madison. The Capital Times has the ability to become more than just the progressive news source."" And although the shift to online may seem like a failure, it is an opportunity to reach readers where they sit most often: in front of a computer.

This opportunity can put The Capital Times at the forefront as a progressive business. The Capital Times has the potential to be more successful because audiences are seeking information constantly, and The Capital Times is in the best position to provide a constant stream of information in a medium that people use most frequently.

The Capital Times will maintain its status as a community resource in its two weekly editions as well as its online content. The staff of The Capital Times must maintain a fighting spirit for the paper to successfully continue online.
