On Tuesday morning, some downtown Madison residents awoke to find they were the victims of an April Fools Day prank with an environmental twist.
The Madison Police Department received complaints of over 30 vehicles near Langdon, Williamson and Monroe Streets with flat tires and notes on the windshield reading Happy Fossil Fool's Day - o Drive Less,"" according to a police report.
Police said air was let out of the tires, but none were slashed and no permanent damage occurred.
""It's more of an April Fools prank which I'm assuming people aren't finding too funny,"" said MPD public information officer Joel DeSpain.
Police believe the incidents occurred overnight and it is likely more than one person is responsible, according to DeSpain. He said no one claimed responsibility for the flat tires and no witnesses reported seeing anything.
DeSpain said the penalty for the prank would likely be misdemeanor disorderly conduct or property damage charges.
