A man opened fire on a large lecture hall at Northern Illinois University at approximately 3:00 p.m. Thursday leaving five dead and injuring the instructor and 15 students before committing suicide.
The man entered the classroom in Cole Hall and with a shotgun and two handguns, opened fire on students sitting near the front of the room, according to Justin Smith, online editor at the Northern Star, NIU's student-run newspaper.
Smith said the classroom in Cole Hall is a larger one and over 100 students were in the lecture hall at the time of the shooting.
