With local forecasts calling for continuing snowfall and freezing rain early this week, the university issued a statement regarding ongoing snow removal after facing scrutiny from some students.
UW-Madison's physical plant director Jay Harrod said in a statement on Friday that removal of snow and ice is being taken very seriously.
You can be assured that we will not rest until the campus is as clear and safe as possible,"" Harrod said.
According to Harrod, the UW physical plant is responsible for 50 miles of sidewalk, over 90 parking lots and 12 miles of streets.
Unpredictable Wisconsin weather, cuts to the physical plant's grounds staff, complications with equipment breakdown and employee illness and injury are all unavoidable factors that slow snow removal, Harrod said.
Harrod urged students to contact the university about areas that have been neglected in snow removal, especially those that are accessed by the disabled.
