Madison police reprimand two officers for violations of policy

Madison police issued statements Monday regarding two officers who received reprimands for violations of policy committed early this year.

On July 31, an officer unintentionally discharged a taser during testing procedures, causing self-injury,"" according to a police statement.

Given the injury, the taser's unintentional discharge was considered a disregard for safety and in violation of policy. Police said a letter of reprimand was issued to the officer for the violation.

Police also made a statement regarding an internal investigation into a complaint against an officer who made ""inappropriate comments"" to a citizen.

The investigation determined the officer had used ""unprofessional language"" during a response to a disturbance call. The officer also failed to submit a report of the call, in which the officer detained one of the subjects involved with handcuffs.

For failing to submit a report, the officer received a one-day unpaid suspension. For using insulting and obscene language, the officer received a letter of reprimand.
