The Impeachment Coalition of Dane County and Veterans for Peace announced Thursday they want the City Council to reconsider the issue of impeaching President George Bush.
According to a release from the Impeachment Coalition of Dane County, members of the organization have been going door-to-door to find support to impeach President Bush. The Coalition contacted Ald. Mark Clear, District 19, asking him to reconsider making a motion to re-discuss the issue of impeachment at next Tuesday's city council meeting.
Ald. Clear said that if the coalition was able to generate enough support within his district, he would consider making the motion.
Since I voted no, I have that ability [to bring the vote back into motion],"" Clear said, adding that because he was on the winning side of the vote, he would be within his rights to reconsider.
However, Clear said he that is unlikely to bring the impeachment issue back since it originally lacked strong support among his constituents and colleagues.
""At this point, I would say that I am unconvinced that the outcome would be any different, and I have no reason to believe any of my colleagues would vote any differently,"" Clear said.
Buzz Davis, a member of the Veterans for Peace, said in a statement that the council made a ""grave mistake"" on September 4 by voting down the proposal but could make amends next week.
""The pending war on Iran must be stopped and this can only be done by starting the impeachment proceedings against Bush and Cheney,"" Davis said.
Ald. Eli Judge, District 4, said he follows the model set by Sen. Russ Feingold and believes an impeachment process would only slow down the Democrat's progress on other issues such as health care.
