The Madison Police Department is on the lookout for the persons responsible for breaking into numerous vehicles in driveways, on streets and in mall parking lots on Madison's west side, according to a release.
The MPD became aware of the situation after numerous citizens reported broken car windows. In one incident report, police said, a witness saw a slingshot aimed from a large, black SUV rupture two windows in separate vehicles at a mall parking lot.
Although there are currently no suspects, similar tactics were used in other reports of broken vehicle windows, including what police said appears to be the use of a pellet gun.
Police cannot conclusively link any of the incident reports and said it is not possible at this time to get a count of how vehicles were affected. In the report, police noted how difficult it is to track the suspects due to their mobility and the methods they use to damage the cars. Anyone with information on the vandals can call Crime Stoppers at 266-6014 with the possibility of a cash reward.
