The University of Wisconsin men's and women's track teams won a total of six events at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Sunday.
For the men's team, senior Dan Goesch clinched the 200 meters with a personal best time of 21.27 seconds. He also finished second in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash with a 10.77.
Freshman Victor Dupuy won the long jump at 23', 1.25'', only one-quarter inch off his personal best.
The Badgers had three second-place finishers as freshman Pat Nichols finished second in the high jump at 6', 6.25'', and junior Steve Ludwig claimed the runner-up spot in the 800 meters in 1:53.31. Senior Mike Sracic took second in the discus throw with 154', 3'', and third in the hammer with 169', 8''.
Third-place finishes came from freshman Rory Linder in the discus with a throw of 152 feet, junior Nathan Probst in the 400-meter hurdles in 54.37 sec. and junior Derek Thiel in the pole vault at 15', 6.25''.
UW also had several top-five finishers, including freshman Nate Larkin who finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.45 sec. Freshman Sal Fadel took fourth in the pole vault at 15', .25'', and senior Nathan Brown was the top UW finisher in the shot-put, coming in fifth at 48',10''.
All four wins in the women's team came from field events. Sophomore Amanda Hoeppner set two personal bests as she won the shot put with a toss of 46', 10.25'' and finished second in the hammer throw at 177', 6''. She also finished third in the discus at 136', 3''. Hoeppner is now ranked second on the UW all-time list in the hammer throw and seventh all-time in the shot put.
Freshman Samantha Dehn won the discus with a personal best throw of 144', 10'' and took eighth in the shot put at 38', 10.5''.
Sophomore Amy Lewis took the runner-up spot in the javelin throw at 117', 9''.
In the jump events, Laquita Brazil won the long jump at 17', 9''. She also finished second in the triple jump at 36', 11.5'', while freshman Carrie Woltman claimed third place in the high jump after clearing 5', 2.25''.
Senior Julia Heinrich won the pole vault at 10', 11.25'', while Senior Lindsey Heinzmann tied for fourth in the pole vault at the same height.
The Badgers also claimed several other top-five finishes in the track events, including a second-place finish in the steeplechase from Emma Tauchman in 11 minutes, 45.4 sec. Freshman Emily Brody finished third in the 400 meters in a personal best time of 47.34 sec while freshman Alexis Beecham was third in the 200 meters in 26.04.
