Students:
Never be the last to leave a party.
Cops can't be everywhere at once, so take careful measures to protect yourself.
Go out with friends, come home with friends.
Take a self-defense class to train your body in case you are attacked.
Let your roommate know where you're going and what time you will be back.
Bring a few dollars out with you just in case you need to take a cab.
Take advantage of the SAFEride cabs—students can use four rides a month, and it's the most efficient way to ensure people get home safely, from door to door.
Campus officials:
Nighttime buses need to come more frequently and the routes need to be made more clear to students.
Keep students integral in the construction of a safety task force and safety office.
UWPD: Make a campus crime log available for student viewing online.
Dorms could have messages boards that let students see who is going to walk to the library each night so they can find other people to walk back and forth with.
Dorms could also have voluntary message boards that let student sign up to let their housefellow know where they are going with a time they are expected to be back.
