Students should keep certain pieces of personal information offline, the Office of the Dean of Students said in a University Communications release Tuesday.
Potential employers, professional schools and graduate programs may surf Facebook and other online social-networking sites to find information on applicants, and ""offensive pictures and language can result in lost opportunities,"" according to Assistant Dean of Student Advocacy and Judicial Affairs Tonya Schmidt.
Additionally, according to Campus Safety Coordinator Jennifer Duncan, students may be at risk for stalking if too much information—especially things like addresses and phone numbers—is available for strangers to see.
The Office of the Dean of Students recommended students avoid posting specific details like class schedules ""that could make you easy to find or steal from"" and consider making Facebook profiles visible only to friends.
