While attending UW-Madison in the 1960s, Soglin was a student activist and was even arrested at the first ever Mifflin Street Block Party in 1969. Yes, folks—he defines Madison fairly well.

Started in the summer of 2006, ""Waxing America"" comments on a variety of topics ranging from the craziness of Ann Coulter to the intricacies of Madison's school board races and the state Supreme Court.

Soglin prides himself in fighting against poverty and injustice, and usually rails on Mayor Dave Cieslewicz for not adequately dealing with those issues. Soglin supports Ray Allen in this April's election for those very reasons.

Due to his experience in city politics, Soglin is highly qualified to comment on most issues facing Madison today. With a small set of loyal readers, he succeeds in sparking discussion, searching for solutions and even snarking on occassion.

As he says on his blog, ""Waxing America"" is ""a candid examination of right-wing policies and the Democrats who play along and the horrid liberal policies designed to assuage the moderates but end up irritating everyone."" From this statement you realize that no one escapes Soglin's gaze and his posts show it.

So do yourself a favor and check out ""Waxing America"" to get a hint of what being an old-school Madison liberal is really like.
