Another case of campus sexual assault has arisen.
According to WKOW TV, an anonymous UW-Madison student said she was the victim of a sexual assault on Dec. 9, 2006.
The woman told WKOW 27 she was at a house party on Breese Terrace at the fraternity Zeta Psi. She reportedly said when she woke up the following morning, she felt ill and went to Meriter Hospital to get tested by a sexual assault nurse examiner.
WKOW 27 held an interview with the alleged victim, and she told the station she is upset with the way police are handling the situation. According to the interview, the woman said the detective who was put on the case questioned her roommate and asked, ""Do you know if she likes rough sex?""
Madison police spokesperson Mike Hanson said in a case like this, it is hard to start piecing together evidence.
""Sexual assault investigations are lengthy,"" Hanson said. ""Detectives have to start from scratch because they weren't at the scene when it originally occurred and they have to gather as much information [as possible], and sometimes that means asking very difficult questions.""
Still, the woman told WKOW 27 that she is not ""lying or hiding anything"" from the police and that this case is similar to the ""Patty"" case. The ""Patty"" case occurred in 1997 when Madison police did not believe a woman's sexual assault accusations.
However, it was discovered recently that the woman was in fact telling the truth and since that time, Police Chief Noble Wray has issued a formal apology to the woman.
