Nigel Goodwan, 29, led police on a car chase Tuesday night on Madison's east side, resulting in Goodwan crashing his car into a tree and police recovering marijuana from his car.
According to Madison police, Goodwan reported to an officer he had nearly gotten into an accident with a different vehicle. The officer told Goodwan to follow him while he located the other vehicle and performed a routine traffic stop. However, after the officer looked into the matter further, the investigation revealed Goodwan did not even have a valid ID.
Police said Goodwan gave a fake name to the officer.
After the name was given, Goodwan panicked and led police on a short chase near Dane County Regional Airport, reportedly crashing his car into a tree and fleeing the scene.
Once the police located Goodwan, he was taken to the hospital to treat minor injuries as a result of the crash. Shortly after being cleared by doctors, police took him to jail and charged him with: eluding, possession and obstructing an officer.
