Campaign finance reports documented new proximities in the mayoral race between candidates Ray Allen and Mayor Dave Cieslewicz Wednesday.
""I think this campaign finance report will show that this race is a lot closer than folks think,"" said Semmi Pasha, Allen's campaign spokesperson.
Incumbent Cieslewicz showed an advantage during the second half of 2006 over Allen. The reports detailed that within the time period of July 1 to Dec. 31, Cieslewicz added $43,037 and Allen $25,415.
At the start of 2007, Cieslewicz had $116,198 available, while Allen had $96,229.
The mayor's average donation was under 100 dollars, said Megan McGrorty, campaign manager for Cieslewicz.
She said the grassroots style fundraising showed that ""people from all walks of life are supportive of the mayor and everything he's doing in the community.""
The full campaign finance reports are available on the City Clerk's website. However, Allen's is not yet available, which may possibly be due to filing inaccuracies.
According to Pasha, the front page of Allen's report had something written on the wrong line, and for some of the contributions the incorrect date was recorded.
He said the City Clerk's office allowed Allen to fix the errors. The report is expected to be available within the next few days.
Mayoral candidates Peter Munoz and William Sandstrom did not file reports due to the amount of money their campaigns contained within the given time period.
