MINNEAPOLIS—UW-Madison freshman David Seeger knew exactly what he was doing for Valentine's Day—he was going to Williams Arena to see the men's basketball team beat archrival Minnesota.
Seeger was not the only Badger fan present as those wearing Cardinal red and White filled up the seats that remain empty for most games. Wisconsin fans were loud throughout the game and when Minnesota junior center Spencer Tollackson fouled out, ""Left! Right! Left!"" was heard so loud that anyone could have thought all of the Grateful Red was there.
Seeger was not only in attendance but also sitting in the middle of the Gophers' student section with two other Badger fans—one of whom actually goes to Minnesota.
""I love to follow the team,"" Seeger said. ""I went to the game at Northwestern and I wanted to come here because tickets are too hard to get at the Kohl Center.""
Seeger was with his two friends, Kaven Shabtaie, a freshman at the University of Minnesota and Anne-Marie Rodriguez, a freshman at St. John's University in Collegeville, Minn. All three are originally from Madison and Shabtaie was sticking to his Badger roots.
""I got five [Gopher friends] behind me. It's been brutal, but when we win I'll give it to them,"" Shabtaie said.
Wisconsin did win as senior forward Alando Tucker scored 29 points and UW tied a season record for wins, which they broke Saturday with its 26th win on the year.
