Apt. complex set ablaze at Orchard Court

A three-story apartment complex at 116 N. Orchard caught fire at about 8 p.m. Saturday night and caused roughly $50,000 in damage.

According to the Madison Fire Department, firefighters from seven different squads united to fight the blaze in one room of a basement in the apartment.

Police and ambulances were also on the scene. After nine minutes of fighting fire, the blaze was smothered. None of the people living in the apartment were injured and the fire department said only three occupants were home.

Smoke from the fire spread throughout much of the building and caused minor damage to each of the nine rooms in the complex. Firefighters were able to put the blaze down quickly, but one rescuer did suffer minor injuries to his hand.
