A classic drink that has faded from the collective memory of barkeeps and imbibers alike and a charter member of the highball pantheon, the Gin Buck is an ideal pre-dinner or afternoon beverage: light, refreshing and easy to tinker with.

The Gin Buck's old school simplicity and bottom-heavy taste does require some decent gin to do justice to it. We recommend Tangueray or Bombay, but Seagram's Extra Dry will do nicely. Save the Fleischmann's and Gordon's for this drink's dirty, but tasty, half brother, the Orange Buck.

This light, summer drink will go a long way to distract ftom the doldrums of winter, but can also be spiced up for winter flavor. Try making it with strong ginger ales, such as Vernor's or Sprecher. Adventurous pourers may also experiment with ginger beer. Seasoning with juniper is permissible.
