Bush declares State of the Union strong in annual address

President Bush delivered his sixth State of the Union address to Congress and the nation Tuesday night.

The President stood strong behind his policy of sending 20,000 additional troops to Iraq, despite criticisms earlier this month. With Democrats now controlling Congress, he called upon its members to give a chance for the new plan to work. ""Like many before us, we can work through our differences, and achieve big things for the American people,"" he said.

At home, Bush declared the economy on the move with both unemployment and inflation low and wages on the rise. On health care, he said the best decisions are made ""not by government and insurance companies, but by patients and their doctors.""

In addition, the President called for a reduction in energy consumption and wishes to reform spending in Congress.
