Police responded to a bomb threat at Madison East High School at approximately 9:30 a.m. Monday morning.
School officials and police evacuated staff and students in order for a bomb squad to search the building for any foul play. After police found nothing wrong, students returned to the building some time later.
According to police, an investigation of the crime led them to arrest a 15-year-old male student from Madison East. The student told police the threat was meant as a ""prank."" Still, the young man faces felony charges for the scare. He now is faced with a possible fine of up to $100,000. Other possible scenarios for the student include three and a half years of jail time if convicted of the crime.
Joe Quick, Public Affairs officer for the Madison Metropolitan Schools, said that the school followed specific protocols set up for such occasions as bomb threats. He also said that any student involved in matters relating to bomb scares would face consequences for their actions.
""Standard protocol is expulsion,"" Quick said.
Monday's bomb threat is Madison East's third in less than six months.
