Blog topics: national politics, gay civil rights
Political views: liberal
John Aravosis created ""AMERICAblog"" for one reason: ""because at some point you tire of all the lies."" Aravosis has personally taken on the responsibility of criticizing the Bush administration and pointing out the hypocrisy of the radical right whenever possible. And boy, what a good job he has done.
Some may remember the Jeff Gannon scandal in early 2005 when a man working for a fake GOP news agency somehow obtained a White House press pass and started lobbing softball questions at Bush. Turns out he was a gay hooker who appeared on the site hotmilitarystuds.com. Who broke this story? Why, Aravosis of course.
With a political expertise unparalleled in much of the blogging community (he studied at Georgetown under former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright), Aravosis brings a fresh look to political analysis. He is most known for in-depth coverage of controversial stories, including the already-mentioned Gannon scandal, the wiretapping scandal and ABC's ""Path to 9/11"" docudrama.
The blog also has numerous guest posters ranging from the inexperienced to a former Department of Defense civilian intelligence officer (who is also an Iraq expert).
Aravosis is also a prominent gay rights activist who is most known for rallying media attention to the Matthew Shepard case.
If you hate Bush, make sure you check out AMERICAblog. Or maybe if you just want to check out some pictures of Gannon. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
