Badgers fall to UW-Green Bay

After UW-Green Bay (6-3) pulled ahead late in the first half, Wisconsin (10-2) was not able to narrow the Phoenix lead until it was too late. The Badgers fell Wednesday night at the Resch Center by the score of 70-66. This was the Badgers' second loss of the season, both disappointments coming on the road.

The first half ended with the Badgers losing 42-26, as UWGB's Horizon League Player of the Week, senior forward Nicole Soulis, led the Phoenix with 12 points while sharing the ball well with her teammates. Wisconsin's standout junior guard Jolene Anderson led all scores at the half with 13 points, but was the only Badger to register more than five points.

Intensity picked up for both teams as aggressive play resulted in a foul-filled second half. The Badgers committed 16 fouls while the Phoenix collected 11. At one point, the Phoenix were up 23 points, but Wisconsin trimmed the deficit to three points with 28 seconds left in the game.

Green Bay senior guard Natalie Berglin struggled from the charity line in the home stretch, but senior guard Amanda Popp knocked down two clutch free throws with seven seconds left on the clock. This gave the Phoenix a comfortable six-point cushion within the final seconds of the game. Junior guard Janese Banks made a layup with two seconds left, but that was not enough for Wisconsin.

Anderson had her third double-double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Banks also contributed 20 points for UW.

Green Bay had four players score in double-figures, as Soulis had a team high 17 points, followed by Berglin's 14, Popp's 12 and junior guard Kayla Groh's 11-point contributions.
