Veterans Day parade will be Madison’s first in 30 years

Madison will see a downtown Veterans Day parade for the first time in 30 years Saturday.

The parade, organized by the Air Force ROTC group Silver Wings, will begin at 12 p.m. The route currently calls for a procession down State Street, ending at Library Mall.

Air Force and Army ROTC members active in organizing the parade have already placed miniature American flags in Library Mall. One of the organizers, Brandon Sivret, has already been involved in planning a popular State Street gathering.

Sivret, who along with Tom Wangard founded the Halloween Action Committee, worked closely with the mayor's office and other city officials in the weeks running up to Freakfest 2006.

Saturday's Veterans Day parade is part of a nationwide celebration of American servicemen that began this week.
