The UW Roman Catholic Foundation filed a federal lawsuit Thursday against the UW System Board of Regents and four UW-Madison administrators, claiming the university is discriminating against the organization on the basis of religion.
In September, the UW-Madison Student Organization Office told UWRCF the SOO needed more information regarding the group's leadership policies to ensure they did not require leaders to be of a certain faith. To date, the UWRCF has still not been granted Registered Student Organization status.
""No information that could potentially be used as a basis of discrimination (gender, religious preference, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.) is requested on job applications,"" wrote UW-Madison junior and UWRCF member James Van Hoven in a July 30 e-mail to SOO Director Yvonne Fangmeyer. ""In point of fact, though we do not ask, we have had lesbians, gays, and non-Christians all as members and/or board officials.""
