Student Judiciary decides cases, announces new student lawsuits

Shared Governance committee member Jo Matzner filed a lawsuit against Shared Governance Chair Patrick McLeod due to McLeod's appointment of student representatives to the Associated Students of Madison Shared Governance Athletic Board Committee without Student Council approval, the ASM Student Judiciary announced Monday night.

The Matzner v. McLeod case will likely be heard Wednesday after 7 p.m., according to SJ Chief Justice Josh Tyack. Matzner alleges McLeod violated ASM bylaws in making his decision to appoint student representatives to the Athletic Board Committee and Subcommittee. The purpose of the case is to prevent ASM Student Council from appointing more shared government committee representatives than there are seats.

The Student Labor Action Coalition v. Student Elections Commission case was also decided.

SLAC sued the SEC, declaring the fact that absentee ballots for out-of-town students were not publicized, lowered voter turnout and rendered the elections unfair. Tyack said he expects the decision to be announced today.

The SJ also finalized decisions on Tenant Resource Center v. Student Services Finance Committee, Elliot v. Student Elections Commission and Student Elections Commission v. Eagon.
