After the Democrats won the majority of the state Senate with four seats, both Democratic and Republican senators chose new leadership Thursday for the upcoming legislative session.
State Sen. Judy Robson, D- Beloit, was named by her colleagues as the Senate majority leader. Robson moved up the ranks after previously serving as the minority leader.
The longest serving senator, Fred Risser, D-Madison, will serve as the president of the Assembly.
After losing their majority power to the Democrats, Republicans elected Senator Scott Fitzgerald, Râ_Juneau, as their minority leader through 2009.
""Nov. 7 was a tough night to be a Republican,"" said Fitzgerald in a statement. ""Both Governor Doyle and Senator Judy Robson have expressed a desire to work together with Republicans on solutions for the challenges we face. I take them at their word and look forward to working with both of them in a bipartisan way in the months ahead.""
