Another triumph in Dogfish Head Brewery's lineup, Raison D'AStre gives beer connoisseurs a reason to live.
For those confused by the accent mark above the ""etre,"" the beer's name stems from the french phrase ""raison d'Aªtre,"" which, loosely translated means, ""raison of Aªtre.""
Raison d'Aªtre's initial syrupy quality quickly dissipates on the tongue, giving it the smooth texture of a stout, but keeping the lighter consistency of an ale. Only vaguely bitter, this beer has a pleasant, light taste, with a delightful fruitiness so subtle it might only be imaginary.
In fact, this beer is so good the only major blow is the hefty $9.99 price tag. But, for such a delicious, yet potent brew (8 percent alcohol), it might just be worth the splurge. After all, as the french say, ""nous sommes effrayAcs des Allemands!""
