Mayor Dave locked and loaded for 2006 deer hunting season

Mayor Dave Cieslewicz will be out of the office today, trading his suit and tie for blaze orange and boots.

The mayor is an avid deer hunter, and this year's trek into the forest will not be the first of his career. During his 2003 campaign for mayor, Cieslewicz bagged a trophy buck before taking down incumbent Paul Soglin in the April election.

In a city renowned for its liberalism and aversion to violence, Cieslewicz demands at least one day out of the year for the pursuit of wild game. He has been successful with his rifle, consistently returning from the hunt with antlers to show.

Regular gun season begins Saturday morning for Wisconsin deer hunters. In recent years, the statewide deer herd has been ravaged by chronic wasting disease, which prevents Cieslewicz from eating the deer he kills.
