A Rock County halfway house escapee hijacked a car Saturday and caused a three-vehicle crash on the 1200 Block of East Johnson Street, according to a Madison Police statement.
John Perry allegedly piloted a stolen car eastbound on East Johnson Street, crossed North Baldwin Street and crashed into two vehicles traveling westbound. Perry jumped out of the moving vehicle before the crash occurred.
Perry subsequently fled the scene, according to the MPD, who apprehended him later that morning after sending out a press release noting he was at large. Perry was arrested for reckless endangerment, hit and run and operating a vehicle without owner's consent.
One of the drivers sustained minor injuries in the crash. Perry was not injured.
Perry originally hijacked the vehicle, a 1996 Dodge Caravan, outside a Rock County halfway house and made his escape from the facility Friday night.
