UW System President Kevin Reilly and the UW System Board of Regents' Special Committee for the UW-La Crosse Chancellor search recommended Nebraska Weasleyan University Interim President Joe Gow for the position Friday.
The full board will decide on the official recommendation at its Nov. 10 meeting.
""Joe is committed to campus diversity, he is a proven fund-raiser and he believes in maximizing the talent on a university campus to achieve common goals,"" Reilly said Friday.
Gow has served in a variety of positions at different universities, including dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Winona State University, Winona, Minn., associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Alfred University, Alfred, N.Y. and interim president for Nebraska Wesleyan since April 2006.
""Dr. Gow's strengths also include an ability to build relationships with external constituencies,"" said Carmen Wilson, chair of the campus' search-and-screen committee and UW-La Crosse psychology professor. ""He clearly appreciates that UW-La Crosse will be most successful if we work together with the local, regional and state communities.""
UW-Madison Associate Vice Chancellor for Teaching and Learning Virginia Sapiro was one of five other finalists including Gow in the UW-La Crosse chancellor search.
