Badgers accept invite to Capital One Bowl

The Wisconsin football team accepted its second straight bid to the Capital One Bowl last Tuesday. While the Badgers are in the top eight in the Bowl Championship Series rankings, a rule precluding three teams from the same conference going to a BCS bowl resigned the Badgers to another trip to Orlando.

In last season's Capital One Bowl, the Badgers pulled a major upset to send former head coach Barry Alvarez out on a positive note, defeating then-No. 7 Auburn 24-10. The game returns to its usual New Year's Day time, as it was pushed back a day last season.

While Wisconsin's opponent is yet to be determined, the Badgers will face a Southeastern Conference foe, likely LSU or Arkansas. Although the Badgers have had a little trouble with SEC opponents in bowls over the years, they are 9-4 in their last 13 bowl games.

The game will begin at noon Jan. 1 and ABC is televising the matchup. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at the Wisconsin Athletic Office, uwbadgers.com or by calling 1-800-GOBADGERS.

In other accolades handed out Tuesday, head coach Bret Bielema was named Big Ten Head Coach of the Year. Bielema became the first rookie head coach in the history of the Big Ten to win 11 games with Wisconsin's win over Buffalo.
