Four UW-Madison freshmen were mobbed by a group of teenagers on Allied Drive late Friday night, with one of the male students losing his wallet in the skirmish.
According to police, the four freshmen were returning from a movie in Fitchburg when a band of 13 to 15 year-olds surrounded them on the 2000 block of Allied Drive. The teenagers then began punching two of the students and attempting to rob them, ultimately stealing a wallet.
The four students escaped the fracas with only minor injuries and were able to call police from a gas station on nearby Verona Road.
It remains unclear how the UW-Madison students found their way to Allied Drive after their movie, and police offered no details about their plans. The nearest Fitchburg movie theater is the Star Cinema, over a mile away at 6019 McKee Rd.
However, in order to walk from the theater to Allied Drive without first passing a Madison Metro Bus Stop, the students would have had to walk through the nearby Dunn Marsh.
Only one metro bus runs from the UW-Madison campus to the troubled Allied Drive area. Police have not said whether the four students were riding that bus, the 19, but have said they were planning on riding a bus back to campus.
