The Associated Students of Madison Student Services Finance Committee voted Monday night to uphold its denial of a UW-Madison student veteran organization's appeal for funding after SSFC denied the group at its Sept. 25 funding-eligibility hearing and denied its initial appeal Sept. 28.
Vets for Vets, a group offering services for war veteran students and alumni, was denied funding last week because SSFC felt the organization did not offer a range of services available to the entire UW-Madison student population.
The organization then filed an appeal, claiming a procedural violation occurred in SSFC's assessment of Vets for Vets' services.
""The Vets for Vets' appeal was denied because the committee didn't feel there was a procedural violation at all, or even an accusation of a procedural violation,"" said SSFC chair and UW-Madison senior Zach Frey.
However, according to Frey, Vets for Vets has now filed an additional appeal of Monday night's decision.
SSFC also finalized its vote on last Thursday's decision to overturn the funding denial of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Student Council.
The committee decided to fund CALS Student Council because it determined the council's services and membership are indeed open to all students, contrary to SSFC's previous understanding of the organization.
