Michael J. Fox appears in a new ad endorsing Gov. Jim Doyle and his support for stem cell research.
Fox, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, said in the ad he is an advocate of stem cell research because of its potential to cure many diseases, including his own.
""Wisconsin holds a special place in my heart, because it's where stem cell research was born,"" Fox said. ""The cures we are looking for may come from here.""
The ad states Doyle's opponent U.S. Rep. Mark Green, R-Green Bay, has opposed legislation supporting stem cell research.
Luke Punzenberger, Green's campaign spokesperson, said in a statement ""using a celebrity to further Jim Doyle's false attacks does not make them any more true.""
Punzenberger pointed to Green's pledge to give $25 million to fund stem cell research that does not destroy embryonic stem cells.
Green said the ad is untruthful about his stance on the issue.
""I want Michael J. Fox and anyone suffering from an illness to get well, which is why I have cosponsored legislation that increased funding for stem cell research and doubled funding for the National Institutes of Health,"" he said.
