Simpson nets big award
UW junior setter Jackie Simpson was named the National Player of the Week, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Tuesday.
Simpson notched 48 assists Friday night when the Badgers upset No. 2 Penn State. The junior then contributed 43 assists Sunday in UW's victory over Ohio State.
The award is given out weekly by the AVCA in conjunction with Sports Imports.
Simpson was also named Big Ten Player of the Week Tuesday.
UW sweeps soccer awards
The Big Ten announced Tuesday that UW seniors Allison Preiss and Stefani Szczechowski swept Big Ten Player of the Week honors. Both contributed to the team's 5-0 victory over Northwestern Friday night to prolong the team's season, which continues at the Big Ten Tournament Thursday.
Preiss took home the offensive honors after notching two goals and an assist over the Wildcats. Szczechowski won the defensive award after her shutout performance in goal.
