At Thursday night's meeting, the Wisconsin Union followed its mission of ""making lifetime connections to the campus, one person at a time,"" by implementing a living wage provision for limited term employees, effective Oct. 3.
The provision will pay an LTE a wage of $10.58, 110% of the poverty rate for a family of four. Hoofers will wait until July 1, 2007 to execute the living wage rate because of financial issues regarding the riding club.
A living wage policy for an LTE will be realized throughout the entire campus on July 1, 2007. The Wisconsin Union decided to enact the policy early ""to boost moral with Union employees,"" chair of the Union Council Shayna Hetzel said.
Immediate implementation drops a nearly quarter of a million dollar deficit on the Union's budget. However, it has over $3 million in reserves.
Also agreed upon was a $48 reduction in the segregated fee per semester for the designing phase of the Union restoration project, a fee that would be added to each student's tuition until spring 2009.
