Despite conducting a routine investigation into a crash on the side of Highway 51 Wednesday night, Madison police realized they missed something when called back to the area the next morning: the body of a 19-year-old Madison man.
The body of Travis Zeier was found early Thursday morning by a passerby.
The previous night, four Madison Police officers and two Sheriff's deputies responded when a 23-year-old man crossed two lanes of traffic and plowed into a fence on the side of the highway. At the time, the police charged him with inattentive driving and released him.
Police now theorize the driver hit the man before crashing into the fence.
